A lacy shawl

Time to give this neglected blog some love. I have a bunch of unblogged projects, both knitted and sewn, so I'm planning to catch up over the summer.

First up, a lacy shawl.

Last year I decided to learn to knit and started in January with the beginner's classic, a scarf. Just knit and purl stitches. What I lacked in skill I compensated for by choosing beautiful yarns.

But towards the end of last year I had learned to make simple triangle shawls and even a hat knitted in the round, so I was ready for a new challenge. I had my eyes on lace and bought a superfine yarn. I'm near-sighted as it is and frankly could barely see the stitches, let alone work them. So that project was abandoned.

Then I came across this pattern in a Debbie Bliss catalogue in John Lewis and thought it seemed doable. Said and done, bought the yarn and got to work.

I took the project with me when I went home to Sweden for Christmas and it couldn't have been a lovelier knitting experience. An audiobook in my ears, fluffy slippers on my feet, a good coffee by my side and all in front of a wood burner.

The scarf itself was an easy knit. I learned a few new stitches like k2tog and skpo, but nothing too tricky.

I finished it just in time for my mom's birthday at the end of January, so off it went back to Sweden.

I went to Australia in April and decided that this pattern with its simple 8 row repeat is the perfect long haul project, so I have another on the go. I'm taking my sweet time with this one though. My knitting productivity certainly goes down in summer to give way for sewing. But I'm excited to finish it for autumn.

So stayed tuned!
